I have created this web page for devotees of Krishna as well as any one really who is open to healing from Krishna bhakta's (devotees). One reason I have focused on the devotees however, is because we, as a group are not always understood by many nondevotee healers. As we are ageing we also need more support and better support in our health concerns. When I had to go to various healers, from medical doctors to Reiki, I thought about how a devotee would have understand me much better and thus been able to treat my condition better. Therefore, while I am not claiming to know it all, nor that distant healing alone will solve the problem, it is "complimentary help," one worth using, and I hope I can be supportive. Giving my time to this is my small devotional service, for whatever its worth, a way that I can serve the devotees and pious folk of the world.

I have independently studied and used herbs for years. Since the 70s really, and with much success. After my own bout with sickness and an unexpected disease I became even more serious about looking into various ways to assist health. Distant healing is only one way and in my humble opinion, it is imperative to use at least one other method, if not more, to heal. From medication (whether you choose allopathic or herbal meds) to figuring out psychological issues -- or just increasing healthy thinking and eating patterns along with exercise or yoga, a variety of methods often gives a more holistic approach and work together in synch with each other.  

SHOULD DEVOTEES PRAY? Some devotees are under the impression that prayer is silly, foolish, or just not part of the Vaisnava process. Let's clear that up. Srila Prabhupada has encouraged us to pray. Shastra contains much information on prayer for the devotee. Here are only  a few:

“There are nine processes of devotional service, they are all the same. Different processes. Sravanam kirtanam visnoh smaranam pada-sevanam arcanam vandanam dasyam. Vandanam, this vandanam is prayer.” 1976, Room Conversation, Detroit, Mi.

“So everyone should desire like Govinda dasa. Sravana kirtana, these are devotional processes: hearing, chanting; remembering; arcana, worshiping the Deity, vandana, offering prayer. There are nine kinds. So human life was  meant for this purpose. By this process, gradually, we ignite the fire of Krishna Consciousness, or spiritual consciousness.” Purport to Bhajahu Re Mana

“The other religions sects, just like the Christians, they offer prayer; the Muhammadams, they offer prayer. So prayer, offering prayer, is one of the items of bhakti. Chanting, hearing, meditating, offering prayer, arcanam, worshiping the Deity in the temple, all of them together are devotional service. So out of the nine…. If you can execute all nine it is very good. But it is not possible, so even if you can execute one item, you become perfect.” SP Lecture 1968

In addition, there has been scientific proof that prayer works, some of which follows.

PRAYER AND SCIENTIFIC PROOF: In the "Journal of Humanistic Psychology (Vol. 38, No.3) there was a report describing a double-blind study which involved a coronary unit at San Francisco General Hospital. There were one hundred and ninety-two coronary patients that were assigned randomly to a "prayed for" group, while others were put into a control group. Home prayer groups consisting of five to seven people prayed on behalf of each person in the "prayed for" group WITHOUT the person's knowledge. The patients for whom prayers were said for were:

* 5 times less likely to require antibiotics --3 patients as compared to 16 patients in the control group.

* 3 times less like to develop pulmonary edema -- 6 patients compared to 18.

* No one in the "prayed for" group required any mechanical ventilator equipment -- compared to 12 who needed the equipment in the control group.

* And fewer patients died in the control group.

These are noteworthy findings. And these are the findings regarding the prayer of the (mlecca) nondevotee. (Not a criticism! Just a fact. Facts are friendly.) Imagine the devotee!

Srila Prabhupada writes (partial purport) "The Supreme Personality of Godhead is known as bhakta-vatsala, the Supreme Personality who is very much affectionate to His devotees. It is not very extraordinary that the Lord offered His devotee all benedictions. The Supreme Personality of Godhead said in effect, 'I fulfill the desires of everyone. Since you are My devotee, whatever you want for yourself will naturally be given, but if you pray for anyone else, that prayer also will be fulfilled.' Thus if we approach the Supreme Lord or His devotee, naturally we will automatically achieve the benedictions of the Supreme Lord...." Srimad-Bhagavatam 7-9-52

Of course, devotees pray so they can resolve their problems, their health issues, one way or another, for the purpose of serving Krishna better. Nevertheless, this text is there. And in the long run we must learn how to overcome the screams of the body because we are all here temporarily. We can also ask for that realization.

PRAYER VS. DISTANT HEALING: Some feel there is a difference between prayer and the somewhat seemingly mystic "distant healing." Yes, it is different and while we can say it's true that it's often viewed as more mystical, simultaneously recognize it is not really THAT mystical that we can't achieve it. It is simply an energy that is out there, prana or chi, as is the energy of heat in fire, ions in air after a good rainfall, or the force of gravity. It simply “exists” whether we see it or not. After all, gravity is invisible too. We don’t have to be great yogis in the Himalayas to learn how to tap into it, nor does it require that much power to utilize. Anyone can learn it, anyone can do it. Of course, the great yogis will always be more powerful masters of it, but let's not go with the “all or none” concept. There is benefit. When we learn to sensitize ourselves to it, increase our awareness of it, then it becomes like a fine painting we didn't noticed but was always there, or a beautiful flower we ignored but also was always there. We can learn how to tap into that energy/prana, which comes from God, and utilize it consciously as an instrument of Krishna to help ourselves and others.

Now, why should anyone blindly believe there is pranic energy available for the average person to use to assist healing? Let's look at a few examples.

USING THE POWER OF THOUGHT WITH INTENT: Prana goes where thought flows. An experiment was preformed in which human beings were told to try, simply by using intent and focus, to slow the growth of yeast. There were 194 dishes. Surprisingly to many, 151 out of the 194 were successfully slowed in their growth simply by the use of thought and intent directed at them! To make sure, the experiment was repeated sixteen times and results were always very similar. And, not one of these healers had any special psychic or yogic or healing abilities! Then the test was reversed. That is, they were asked to increase the growth of the yeast. They succeeded. To take it a step further, they tried to alter the growth of yeast from sixteen miles away. Yes, it worked.

This gives some notable evidence that healing with thought, intent and focus transcends space. Shastra gives many examples of yogis using pranic energy. Devotees know it exists. We don’t have to become mystic yogis to learn the basics. The ‘laying on of hands,’ be it Christian or from other religions, has always been there because all faiths and all cultures have it. They simply use it according to their personal belief system, but it is going on everywhere and its source is Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

For that matter, there have been experiments which gave evidence that such a healing was equally effective from a distance as much as it was close up. Achieving results with intent and focus does not require an accomplished healer. Nor does it even require a ‘strong,’ intentional focus. For example, in one experiment, laboratory animal handlers were told that some animals had been given high doses of a malaria microorganism, while other animals had been given low doses. In fact though, all the animals had been given identical doses. Nonetheless, the animals that the handlers “thought” had been given high, disease-causing dosages fared much worse than the others. Therefore thought, or intent, has a definite effect on healing.

When we add God to all of this, the effects are even better. And the truth is, everything comes from Krishna anyway. J No one can do anything without His will, nothing can exist without His will, not a blade of grass can move without His will.

DISTANT HEALING: It is widely believed that love is the primary force that makes it possible for one person to help heal another person from a distance, using the thought/intent/focus effect. (Similarly, this can help one develop love of God.) Distant Healing is one name for it and has been documented by many. Dr Randolph Byrd is one. However, even the term “distant healing” is not fully appropriate since in truth, and according to Dr Larry Dossey who is a leading author on the subject of the power of prayer, he states, “There is no such thing as distant healing because there is no distance separating people that must be overcome.”  

Distance, location or time hold no barriers with Distant Healing.

ASTROLOGY AND KARMA: I believe in astrology. I do astrology. I can cast a decent Rasi chart. Does astrology tell us about our future? It can. Does that knowledge free us of our karma and stop bad things from happening to good people? Basically, no. Much of our physical ailments and personal problems show up in our charts. Astrology = karma. A chart simply gives details on the type of karma we came into this world with.

I had to ask myself why, after becoming a devotee, too many of us were still going through so much suffering, either physical or emotional. Why? It bothered me. One could give many answers for justification, but I wasn’t looking for justification. After doing some charts of devotees, what I saw is that we haven’t fully kept ourselves acting on the transcendental platform but preformed very close to what the law of karma directed us to do. This is not a criticism at all -- we are trying and that is wonderful. We simply need to keep on trying and not give up. Remember how Prabhupada told us it could only take 18 days to make the world Krishna Conscious? J It gives me hope. However, without a sufficient supportive society and so much arguing and chaos, it has become hard, therefore the various politics have effected our spiritual advancement. The Internet has been a good thing for devotees. We can use it to help.

Let's remember that the only way to deeply and permanently mitigate material suffering is through the chanting of Hare Krishna; then through preaching or sharing what we know. There are benedictions for those who do.

Even in astrology, the only way we can confidentially get sufficient help is to utilize spiritual propitiations. Although there are many types of propitiations, most Jyotish astrologers who are not jewelry sellers will agree that the best are those which are related directly to Krishna in one way or another, more than wearing expensive gems. If one wants to wear gems it can be all right as supplementary for those who can afford it, but no one should ever think a gem has more power than God. Gems are not the main nor most powerful method. Approaching Krishna with mantra, tapa and daana; now these are the BEST propitiations to free ourselves of karma! Let us overcome our karmic charts and do whatever we can to get our Consciousness back to Krishna. It can be done, by anyone, no matter how fallen one feels:

After Gagendra's prayers to the Supreme Lord came to an end, the Lord proclaimed (S.B. 8-4-25) "My dear devotee, unto those who rise from bed at the end of night and offer Me the prayers offered by you, I give an eternal residence in the spiritual world at the end of their lives."

What if one is not rising as early as they use to? Don’t give up. Prayers can be offered at any time of day for benefit as well as developing and increasing love of God, Krishna.

Sometimes we feel that we are too fallen, especially if we are going through some difficulties that are dragging us, almost by force, away from the more spiritual lifestyle we rather be living, which was the very reason we joined the movement. Here are some nice quotes that we can all use to help inspire us as well as give us genuine hope:

"Activities dedicated to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, even if performed in small measure, never go in vain. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, being the supreme father, is naturally very dear and always ready to act for the good of the living entities." Srimad-Bhagavatam 8-5-48

"One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants indirectly [to indicate something else], jokingly, for musical entertainment, or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all the learned scholars of the scriptures." Srimad-Bhagavatam. 6-2-14  

"Liberation can be attained within a second, provided we abide by the order of Krsna.  Sarva-dharma parityajya mam ekam sharanam vraja.  This is the position. We are not fallen. We are thinking we are fallen. So we have to give up this nonsense thinking. Then we are liberated." SP Lecture on SB, Tokoyo 1972
 

“We often pray to Radharani because She is the pleasure potency of Krishna. The very word ‘Krishna’ means all-attractive, but Radharani is so great that She attracts Krishna. If Krishna is always attractive to everyone, and Radharani is attractive to Krishna, how can we imagine the position of Srimati Radharani? We should try humbly to understand and offer Her our obeisances, saying, ‘Radharani, You are so dear to Krishna. You are the daughter of King Vrsabhanu, and You are Krishna’s beloved. We offer all respectful obeisances unto You.’ Radharani is very dear to Krishna, and if we approach Krishna through the mercy of Radharani, we can easily attain Him. If Radharani recommends a devotee, Krishna immediately accepts Him, however foolish he may be.” SP from EK 5 (Knowing Krishna’s Energies.)   .

If you are under the impression you need an "attunement" for success, or accept "spirit guides," or think you must pay high prices otherwise you fear you're not connected so it wont work, etc., please read my following link that clears up a variety misconceptions. But really --- all you need to know is how to put two hands together and pray! Don't underestimate the power of prayer - remember those scientific findings mentioned above. And don't underestimate yourself. God will take care of anything you feel you're lacking. :-)
